halfemptyglasses: Mirai looking neither happy nor sad (relatively neutral)

Mirai sits on the bottom edge of her bed, her hands braced against the mattress. Her suitcase takes up the far corner, the black blending with the shadows as if it were spreading out into the room. She lifts her right hand, and her mind itches with the thought that she really needs to change her bandages. And to do that, she should probably open her suitcase. She heaves a sigh, pushes herself onto her feet, and pads over to the suitcase.

She takes out the bandages first, pocketing a couple of the sterile packets and taking the rest into her bathroom. She runs the sink and cleans her right hand, in no hurry. Once it's dried on its own, she wraps the new, clean cloth bandage, starting at her pinprick and winding down to her wrist. She gives an experimental flex and finds it satisfactory.

Now, with no further delays to buffer her, she moves on to the rest.

Her clothes come next, the few simple outfits that still fit from her years with the Inami clan. They really are cute. It's nice to dress up sometimes, even if you have nowhere to go.

She gets through about half of her small wardrobe before her hand runs into the small, velvet box that held her ring. She scoops it up, thoughtfully rubbing the top of the box with her thumb. She tucks it into an easy-to-forget corner of one of her drawers.

Mirai smiles, however, when she gets to her shears. How did they end up so buried? She fondly runs her fingers over them before setting them next to her bonsai on the windowsill.

Some trinkets lie in the bottom of the case, and she sorts through them with a delicate touch. Most of them are little cellphone charms: flowers, hearts, sweets, animals, anything that could be considered cute. Under them is a simple handmade bracelet. Mirai takes her hand away and closes the suitcase, unwilling to look on these things anymore.

The task done, Mirai brings the suitcase with her to the bed. She shoves it underneath, straightens herself up, and checks that it's out of sight. She lets out a breath she didn't realize she was holding and goes to water her bonsai.
